Speech

  • Shmiras Halashon

    • Machsom L’fi- Choose 1 hour of the day during which you will be careful to not speak Lashon Hara

    • Learn a daily/weekly Halacha of shmiras halashon

    • Commit to not talk about others (just don’t talk about them!)- a very effective way to avoid speaking Lashon Hara.

    • Learn about and work on not saying Lashon Hara about the Jewish Nation/Communities

  • Nekiyus- Clean Speech:

    • Avoid [curse] words- start with removing one at a time from your daily/frequent vocabulary

    • Identify common phrases/words in your vocabulary that you can honestly say are not consistent with your image of a respected and dignified person, and focus on not saying them

  • Emes

    • Identify an area in which you struggle to speak honestly- Focus on why this a challenge and come up with (and practice) how to be honest in those situations.

​

  • Positivity/Gratitude: Practice not complaining- when you are going to say something and realize that it is pointing out something negative, don’t say it.  (Eventually, you will stop noticing the bad:) )
