Tefilah

  • Shacharis

    • Start with saying Brachos every morning

    • Parts of Shacharis in order of priority:

      • Shemoneh Esrei

      • Shemah

      • Birchos Krias Shema (the prayers after Yishtabach, leading up until Shemoneh Esrei)

      • Baruch She’Amar, Ashrei, Yishtabach

      • P’sukei Dzimra (Prayers in between Baruch Sheamar and Yishtabach- add one prayer at a time)

      • Ashrei, Aleinu

      • Shir Shel Yom - Counting up to Shabbos

  • Daven Shacharis before Chatzos (midday- this changes daily)

  • Minchah- Daven before Shkiah (sunset- this changes daily)

  • Maariv

  • Kavanah

    • Focus on a specific part of davening (Start small! Learn the meaning and develop a personal understanding/connection to that part)

    • Hashem’s Name with Kavanah

      • Saying Hashem’s Name with Kavanah is a special mitzvah, as we are commanded not to say Hashem’s Name is vain (Some understand this to include saying Hashem’s Name without focusing on what you are saying)

  • The Amidah/ Shemoneh Esrei

    • Pause for 10 seconds before starting Shemoneh Esrei- focus on to Whom you are praying and to put aside all personal thoughts/plans for *5* minutes.

    • Kavanah for First Bracha of Shemoneh Esrei -  Then work on Kavanah for Modim, then work on the other brachos

  • Modeh Ani- Say Modeh Ani right when you wake up- just the first sentence (Modeh…Emunesacha). Try to think about the meaning and gratitude- Your Neshama has just returned from Heaven because Hashem has faith in YOU.

  • Tehilim

    • Say a chapter of Tehilim daily or weekly (can be part of a chapter and/or a different chapter each day)

    • Choose a chapter of Tehilim and learn its meaning
